The Benewah County Sheriff’s Office conducted an internal investigation into the incidents i was concerned about.
Typically it would be proper to have an outside agency such as Idaho State Police conduct an investigation to assure no bias. This was not done, Sheriff Dave Resser had Benewah Sheriff’s Office Detective Richardson investigate these issues.
We have included a summary of key issues from the report. The report shows a pattern of civil rights issues that center around 4th Amendment. The report confirms that the issues I brought forth were indeed legitimate concerns. It also confirms the only disciplinary action taken was verbal reprimands.
As you review these incidents I would ask you to put yourself in theses peoples shoes, and think about how their constitutional 4th amendment rights were not upheld.
These rights cannot be waived because the person may be on drugs. These rights are extended to all American citizens regardless of their substance abuse issues and or socio economic status.
To be clear, I support getting drugs off our streets! But, we need to uphold the constitutional rights of all, in the that process.
